Jedediah Smith Elementary School Emergency Procedures

FIRE DRILL

  1. Fire Alarm Sounded
  2. Collect emergency folders (office)
  3. Leave building quickly, quietly, and in an orderly way
  4. Lock Doors
  5. Direct students to fire drill route
  6. Wait quietly in designated area
  7. Take attendance and then display the appropriate emergency card. 

NOTE* Students in pull out classes.  Pull out out classroom teachers and aides; escort students to evacuation stations and escort each student to their home teacher.

GREEN CARD- ALL CLEAR

RED CARD-  MISSING STUDENT/EXTRA STUDENT

BLUE CARD- FIRST AID NEEDED

 

Lunch and Recess

Students and staff are to report to their desgnated emergency areas listed on the Fire Exit Routes. 

In Case of an Earthquake

  1. In the event of an earthquake, the teacher/manager or person of authority implements the "Duck and Cover."
  2. Students outside the classroom: The Teacher/manager or other person in authority, when it is safe to do so will follow fire exit procedures and walk students to fire drill stations on the yard.
  3. Avoid glass and falling objects.  Move away from windows with large panes of glass and out from under suspeneded light fixtures.
  4. Follow the fire exit route and location, get away from buildings. DO NOT RUN 
  • Render First AId if necessary. Take Roll
  • Display appropriate emergency notification color:  Green Paper- ALL CLEAR, all students accounted for.  Red Paper-  MISSING STUDENT or if you have an EXTRA STUDENT.  Blue Card- First Aide needed.
  • Avoid Touching electrical wires that may have fallen.
  • If outside, move away from utility poles, trees building, and other hazards.

The guiding principle is to continue operating as much as possible as if it were a normal day and dismiss at the regular time (unless the quake is major).
